Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on everything. I no longer owna $50 pencil, because I actually passed my Fundamentals of Engineering Exam. This, for those who don’t know, means that as soon as I graduate from UMaine (May 17, 2002 – Mark Your Calendars), I will become a Professional Engineer Intern. Pretty Kewl, Eh?
So with the ending of yet another semester, we bid a fond fairwell to our academic hero .. oh wait, this isn’t that type of story. I’m off to get lunch. Catch everyone on the flip side.
Well, it’s time for my last final of the year. This one is the kicker as it will determine how I actually do in my civil engineering class. I hope I do well. I’ll keep everyone posted.
OK, I never know how to begin these rants some days. It feels like all I will ever be considered as, is a grunt. Today just exemplified that atmosphere at Prexar. The BCC is no longer supposed to support Cisco routers, just take the information and symptoms and pass the ticket off to the “Operations” department. So I’ve now become truly a facilitator. I am not a technician, I’m an answering machine, or at least that’s how it feels. It seems some days that we’re not even looked at for our skills, just because we, being the BCC, started working for Prexar through the call center. Do they even realize the programming skills on my team alone. Then let’s just look at my skillset. I’m going to be a “Professional Engineer Intern” shortly, not to mention having a degree in Computer Engineering and a degree in Mathematics. I’m also working on my CCNA at this time. but then again, that doesn’t matter as I am just a person who works every day answering phones, I’m not technical enough to handle the reponsibilities of a Cisco router. Oh well, I think it’s going to come to the point that a bunch of trained monkeys will have our jobs, since they don’t actually seem to want us doing technical support, nor actually helping our business customers. Just my opinion.
