Well, the engine and tranny have been taken off and I’m finding that the framehead bottom is going to have to be replaced. But, no worries, I have one on order
. This week will entail lots of work with the wire wheel, stripping all the old scaly rust off in preparation for the rust bullet paint all over the frame. I think I may even remove the heater channel wires since the Previous Owner left them in. I should have my new brake lines to run through the tunnel this week (and since the tunnel is wide open at the front, running them should be even easier) and I hope to run new fuel line as well.
I’m going to cheat a bit and leave part of the old fuel line in there as a strap-down point for the new fuel line and brake lines. Mostly I don’t want to break the welds/straps that are currently in place since working in the tunnel is a bitch.

Took the front control arms off and got everything separated. Now begins the long period of cleaning parts to prep them for the rust bullet. Theoretically I’ll be able to paint most of the parts this weekend. But first comes a lot of cleaning
.
And in other good news, my floor pans have finally shipped!!!! I just checked the tracking number and they’re finally at the UPS depot in Shreveport, LA.
And I’ve made the order from CIP1.com for all the little parts that will be needed to get the front end back to snuff (not including brakes). I will order the brake parts soon (read: after paycheck or travel claim) so I can put the front end completely together. I can still see the end result, so no steam has been lost, and being able to just do a little bit at a time has been very relaxing.

The front end is finally off. All the old brakes and backing plates have been removed as well as the end units of the control arms. I’ll be spending the rest of my time de-rusting all the front end parts this week in preparation for the Rust Bullet treatment. Thankfully I got two different colors so I won’t have the issue of knowing whether I’ve covered everything or not with multiple coats (as recommended by the manufacturer). The steering box is still in good shape and I shouldn’t need to do much with it. Funny thing is, the drums weren’t in good shape, but the shoes were in almost perfect condition.
Oh well, que sera sera.

OK, we’re making progress. After ordering the Rust Bullet and getting some wire wheels, I’m ready to take this car work to the next level. So, I moved the frame of the car into the garage and I’ve placed the front end on jack stands. I’ve completely disconnected the front brakes, removed all the shocks, and loosened the bolts holding the front end on. I’ve removed the steering damper, and I’ll be pulling the tie rods off sometime in the next day or so (since it’s inside, my working window has changed a bit). Soon enough, I’ll be taking the full brake kits off (to be rebuilt of course). I’m contemplating going to disc brakes in the front, depending on price of course. After it’s all separated, I’ll wire wheel it to death and then rust bullet it all, making it nice and shiny
Off for the night. Take it easy.
