So as not to outshine my fearless band mate, I have waited a few days before posting my farewell, and what a trip it has been, as stated by Darwin. He is the most outspoken person I have ever known, and it suits him well. Crispy on the other hand is the exact opposite, which is why I think these two will make a great foundation for whatever band they build in the future. I wish them luck in the future and hope they keep in touch with me and whatever project I have going on the side.
Anyways, a little about our last show. What a doozie it was. Being our first show as well, it was very emotionally charged. We started the night off with Keith and I’s first original song, “Anymore”. Though it’s never been the same twice, it came out just as it should, full of emotion (an emotion I haven’t felt for a while, so it was interesting to bring it back), and just a touch of soul. Then came our covers. Since this was my wedding party, I had the guys learn Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be”. While not perfect, it was definitely a cover. Crispy’s playing was flawless and I think I was able to hit the high notes. I had a little bit of adrenaline flowing through me. Darwin was there for backup vocals as well. Next came “I Touch Myself”, and while it ended early, it was very dramatic and made my wife blush, so it got its point. To end the covers set, we did a custom version of “She Hates Me” by Puddle of Mudd. A fun time. But the night wasn’t over, no, not yet. “Freaks and Geeks” was, putting it simply, rocking. It gave a good sign of how well it could have been with a drummer. Since it was my wedding, we decided to tie one of our songs into a little story. “The Morning After” came out with all the agression and lust that it was meant to display. Rough and driving, it provided a very dramatic change, when we switched gears for “Tolan”. “Tolan” was written for Darwin’s son, and throughout the performance, I put my heart and soul into it, because that’s what the song called for. “Tolan” would have been a great ballad, and I think drums could have only enhanced the song. To finish out, Darwin and I did a stunning rendition of an old sea shanty, “Yo Ho”. While the reaction was mixed, as was to be expected, it was just as rocking and got the crowd to cheer.
The night ended with a fun night of Karaoke and Crispy surprised the hell out of us. He got up and did Sir Mix A Lot’s “Baby Got Back” and amazed the crowd. I myself must say “Crispy, you fucking rocked”. Darwin and one of his friends from CT got up and slaughtered “Bohemian Rhapsody”, but all in all, it was an amazing night and a fun night of friendship.
